Mae

Mae was the bravest cat I have ever known, and I have known many cats.  Born blind, to a blind mother in a churchyard n East  Jerusalem, What were her chances?

But giving up was not a concept recognized by this exceptional cat.  When a concerned tourist called me she was so weak i didnt think she would survive.  But in the manner that we realized was natural to her, she pulled herself together and started growing.  Mae was always tiny and had various health issues, but she never felt sorry for herself and quickly learned her way around the house.  She knew where the food was,  and she always slept on my pillow, a privelege she shared with no one.   Mae proved that you can be blind and still get on the counter to check out the sink, climb a ladder to find a sunny spot to sit and even leap through the air onto the shoulder of a person handing out chicken.  Mae knew my voice, and my footsteps and she was always right behind me.

I will miss her forever, but when the pain dulls, i will be able to laugh at the memory of her flying through the air to catch a morsel or climbing down backwards when she wasnt sure of the height of her perch.  Most of all I will remember her courage and her unwavering spirit, and i will try to live up to that.

Mae sounds like she was an amazing cat. I'm sorry for your loss. As much as she enriched your life, you gave her a life with love and caring. That's the best thing that we can do for those we love.

I am so sorry to hear about Mae, I was one of the tourists who called you about her and I am so glad that we did and that she had this 2 extra years of life that she would never otherwise have had. I will never forget her curled up on my shoulder while we waited for you to come and pick her up, purring all the time. Thank you so much for the life you enabled her to have.
